# What Is an AI Chief of Staff?

What an AI Chief of Staff should actually do: know what's changed, prepare you for what's next, handle the follow-through and know when to ask.

You have a meeting in twenty minutes. The customer moved a deadline, someone on your team sent the report, and there's an unanswered question from last week. You can piece that together from three apps and two email threads. Should you have to?

That's the job an [AI Chief of Staff](https://team0.ai/chief) ought to take on. Not just answer when you ask, but arrive knowing what changed and what still needs you.

A chatbot can draft the briefing if you give it the right material. An automation can move a task when a rule fires. Both are useful. Neither becomes a Chief merely by connecting to your inbox.

## What makes it a Chief?

A good human Chief of Staff knows the people, the work and the decisions in motion. They prepare you, follow up, and bring you the calls that should remain yours. An AI Chief should try to do the same, within authority you control.

That means it needs to notice work as it happens, keep track of changes, and connect the right people and conversations. Before a call, it should know that Thursday replaced Friday. It should not make you explain the customer relationship from scratch every time. If two sources disagree, it should say so rather than quietly choose one.

The aim is simple: less time reconstructing the situation, more time making the decision.

## Connecting apps is only the start

Email access tells the Chief that a message arrived. It doesn't make the sender right. A calendar event tells it a meeting exists. It doesn't prove a promised report was delivered or that the meeting resolved the issue.

Team0 keeps the original source next to what it believes the source means. Its [World Model](https://team0.ai/world-model) connects people, projects, decisions and, where they are captured, obligations that are still open. When evidence changes, the current answer should change too. If the evidence isn't strong enough, “I don't know” is better than a polished mistake.

## What does the Chief do with that understanding?

It can prepare you for a meeting with the recent changes and unresolved questions, not just a bundle of documents. It can draft a reply or help coordinate the next step. Clients can email the Chief. It can also join meetings and approved conversations. [Authorized agents](https://team0.ai/agent-network) can consult a limited view of the same underlying understanding.

But helping is not the same as taking over. You decide which conversations it can see, which actions it may take on its own and when it must ask. A public visitor does not get your private context. A consequential decision still belongs to you.

And the Chief has to know when to stop bringing something up. If a captured promise was fulfilled, the original request should stay in the history, but the work should no longer appear as unfinished. A sent email is not automatically proof. The result has to match the thing that was promised.

## When would you want one?

Not only when your inbox is enormous. You notice the need when you're the person holding all the connections in your head: why this customer matters, what changed on the last call, which colleague owns the next step, whether someone already handled it.

Team0's Chief is our attempt to carry that load. She works from a [living World Model](https://team0.ai/world-model), keeps the evidence available, and operates within the limits you set. She can do preparation and follow-through. You keep the judgment.

## New agent. Same you.

Team0 plugs into the agents you already use, so every one of them starts from what’s true.

### Your Agent Needs a Model of Your World, Not a Longer Chat History

A chat history remembers what was said. It doesn't reliably know which meeting moved, who made a promise, or what changed afterward.
